In this episode Chris speaks to American director Rachel Chavkin. Rachel has been Artistic Director of Brooklyn-based company The TEAM since 2004, whose work has been produced all over the world. More recently, she directed the popular musical Hadestown at the New York Theatre Workshop, which then went on to play at the National Theatre, before transferring to Broadway where Rachel won the Tony Award. 
 
Topics include: giving birth to her best friends’ babies during lockdown; watching the recent changes in America; significant changes in leadership in American theatre institutions; the We See You W.A.T. and Black Lives Matter movements; how lockdown has affected Rachel’s practice as a director and her current/future work; the important role of a ‘process chaplain’ in the rehearsal room; Rachel’s inspiration for the future and how life will continue.
