In the spirit of community and Christmas, we will be collecting for a different local charity each week of A Christmas Carol, beginning with press night on Friday 4 December.
Director and adapter of the play Ciaran McConville said:
“A Christmas Carol is a heartwarming story but one with a message, about social responsibility and how it’s never too late to change the world, or our place in it. We’re really pleased to be working with these wonderful local charities.”
The Kingston based charities we will be collecting for after each performance are:
Kingston Churches Action On Homelessness (4-12 Dec) - helping relieve poverty and distress through temporary accommodation, emergency food and clothing, and support services.
Momentum (13-20 Dec) - supporting children with cancer and life-limiting conditions and their families, all over Surrey and South West London.
EnhanceAble (21-27 Dec) - supporting both adults and children with disabilities, providing respite care, day services and activities.
Kingston Hospital Charity (28 Dec – 3 Jan) - providing much-needed equipment and services for patients and their families.
This year we have chosen charities which we think fit with the storylines of A Christmas Carol. Looking forward, we would like our Christmas productions to be a chance to bring awareness and funds to local charities. We will be asking the public to help us choose the charities we support next year.
A Christmas Carol is performed by members of the Rose Youth Theatre alongside a professional company, and follows in the footsteps of last year’s runaway sell-out success The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The production runs from Tue 1 Dec - Sun 3 Jan.
