John Barton (1928 - 2018)

Mon 22 Jan

We are extremely saddened to hear of the death of John Barton last Friday at the age of 89. Together with our Founding Artistic Director Sir Peter Hall, John Barton co-founded the Royal Shakespeare Company and co-wrote The Wars of the Roses trilogy based on Shakespeare's history plays, which was recently revived on the Rose stage by Trevor Nunn.

John was known for directing more than 50 productions, including Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice and The Greeks and has worked with actors including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Patrick Stewart and David Suchet. He will be sadly missed.
