Last night saw John Malkovich take home the Milton Shulman Award for Best Director for Good Canary at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2016. Malkovich beat off competition from directors John Tiffany (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Dominic Cooke (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom).
The award was presented at a celebrity studded bash in central London attended by Tom Hiddleston, Kenneth Branagh and Billie Piper. Click below to see a video from the awards ceremony.
'Coaxing remarkable performances from his cast, Malkovich fixed an unwavering gaze on his heroine’s suffering, allowing her to be seen as both unbearable and unbearably truthful.'
