Rose Theatre Kingston celebrated its 10th anniversary last night with a fabulous Gala Dinner on Shakespeare's birthday.
The evening was attended by an array of theatre royalty - many of whom are associated with Rose productions, past and present - including esteemed director Trevor Nunn, veteran actors Timothy West and Prunella Scales, Jane Asher and famous cartoonist and illustrator Gerald Scarfe, Nicki and Emma Hall, Samantha Bond, Alex Hanson, Patricia Hodge and TV and stage star Tom Burke, due to perform in the Rose’s upcoming production of Schiller’s romantic tragedy Don Carlos directed by Gadi Roll. Guests were treated to an Italian feast inspired by the Rose’s current Sicily-set production of Much Ado About Nothing starring Mel Giedroyc and John Hopkins, with entertainment from pianist Toby Huelin, The Choir of Royal Holloway and Ronnie Scott’s regular, Joe Stilgoe. The live auction featured the chance to bid on an afternoon tea with TV star Mel Giedroyc, exquisite jewellery kindly donated by Lynda La Plante and a luxurious week’s stay in the French Pyrenees.
Proceeds from the evening provide vital funding for the Rose, to support activities ranging from producing outstanding drama to engage an ever growing audience and creating new playwriting festivals, to providing Rose Youth Theatre and community programmes.
