Rose Theatre joins #WeMakeEvents Red Alert campaign

On Tuesday 11 August, events venues across the country were lit in emergency red as part of the #WeMakeEvents 'Red Alert' campaign headed by Light it in Red.

As the Rose is still not yet fully operational we joined the campaign digitally, standing in solidarity with our fellow theatres and the events industry.

The campaign was designed to issue a 'red alert' to the government: if they do not provide the support the right support, the UK events industry risks total collapse.

If this were to happen, the country would potentially lose over £100bn contributing to the UK GDP to European and US production companies. By the end of 2020, a fifth of companies expect to lose 70% of staff to redundancies.

The campaign askes for three things:

  1. Grants - not loans - made available to businesses in the events supply chain.
  2. Furlough Scheme extended until the industry is back to work
  3. Extension of the Self-employed Income Support Scheme.
