At The River's Edge

William Davies, author of The Happiness Industry, about the commercialisation of wellbeing, argues that a growing proportion of young adults and students "just seem terrified of failure" and perceive learning as "an unforgiving ordeal that offers no room for mistakes."

At the River's Edge, by acclaimed playwright Alex McSweeney, is a series of short, interlinked plays exploring the alienation of the so-called 'snowflake' generation, brought into even sharper focus by a year of lockdown in a global pandemic. Each of these plays, directed by acclaimed directors, raise important issues surrounding the happiness and mental health of a generation of young people.
