Join us for a discussion about the relationship between Jane and William, the status of women in 18th-century London, and the emergence of the Blue Stocking Society.

Chaired by Dr Karen Lipsedge, the panel includes Dr Jane Jordan and Dr Cristina S. Martinez. Jane’s research is on literature and history, with a particular focus on the legal status of British women and prostitution. Cristina's research focuses on 18th-century art and culture and the historical interactions between visuality and law. Karen’s research focuses on 18th-century domestic spaces and gender roles, and their representation in the British novel.

See a free exhibition of work from students and recent graduates of Kingston School of Art's Department of Illustration Animation, running alongside the production of Hogarth's Progress. The work explores a wide range of themes that also inspired Hogarth, including observational and political art.
