21/22 Peter Hall Emerging Artist Fellow, Layla Madanat directs Joe Kerridge’s propulsive new play set inside the UK’s broken asylum system

Succession theme is my ringtone follows the close relationship between a young asylum seeker and his caseworker over a few days as their circumstances spiral. This new play by emerging writer Joe Kerridge tells a vivid and propulsive story set inside the UK’s broken asylum system.

The production is directed by Layla Madanat, the Rose’s 2021-2022 Peter Hall Emerging Artist Fellow.

Formed in the memory of Sir Peter Hall, the founder of Rose Theatre, this fellowship supports an early-career director to develop their artistic ambitions over the course of a year. The fellow assists on a minimum of two Rose Original Productions, working alongside world-class directors and creatives, and the year they spend at the Rose is just the beginning of a lasting creative relationship.
