Vivien Halas introduces her parents’ film the 1954 adaptation of George Orwell’s celebrated novel Animal Farm. Directed by John Halas and Joy Batchelor, it was the first British animated feature and one of the first adult animated films. The film tells the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer, hoping to create a society where the animals can be equal, free, and happy.
The film rights were bought from Orwell’s widow and the film was subsequently commissioned by the CIA.
