Summer Schools 2021: Play in a Week

Ages 11-16

9:30am – 4:30pm

We are offering an exciting, inclusive and intensive performance-based course with either an in person or live streamed performance at the end of the week. You will spend a wonderful week working with a group of like-minded young actors and our team of fantastic professional directors. Groups are split by age and each group will work with their director to create a scripted production to be watched by family at the end of the week. This will either be in person or live streamed depending on the government guidelines at the time. During the course you will have the chance to meet new people, take on challenging direction, gain experience and learn new skills. No experience or audition required. Choose from the below titles and make sure you let us know if you would like to be grouped with friends or siblings on your application form.

Please note this course is Monday to Saturday. Performances take place on Saturdays at 11.30am, 3.30pm and 7pm depending on your group. Once we have your booking, we will split up the groups and contact you with your group and workshop and performance times.

The Odyssey by Homer | Adapted for the Rose by Josh Mathieson 

Homer’s famous epic tale of gods and monsters, witches and raging seas is brought to life in a new re-imagining written for Rose Youth Theatre. 

 

Mon 2nd - Sat 7th August 

Create your own Play in a week! 

This year we are giving our participants the opportunity to devise, create, write, develop and perform their very own play in a week. Participants will work alongside a director and writer to bring their piece together! 

 

Mon 9th - Sat 14th August 

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling | Adapted by Ciaran McConville 

All your favourite jungle characters are bought to life in this exciting retelling. This workshop will include the opportunity to have a go at puppetry! 

 

Mon 16th - Sat 21st August

Macbeth by William Shakespeare | Adapted by Lucy Morrell

‘Something wicked this way comes!’ The Scottish Play full of ambition, supernatural happenings and fantastic characters. 

 

Mon 23rd August - Sat 28th August

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare  

Shakespeare’s most famous summertime comedy full of magic, mechanicals and mistaken identity!

 


Bursaries 

Inclusion and opportunities for all are at the heart of what we do at Rose Participate. Bursaries are available on request to help cover the cost of courses for those who may struggle with the fees. While anyone is free to apply for the bursary fund to help support participation, priority will be given to those facing financial hardship. Bursaries will be offered to fully or partially cover course fees. Mentoring and support are also offered alongside financial support.
